Reviewed: Space Ace Blu-Ray Edition
Producer: Digital Leisure
Required System: PS3 or Blu-Ray Player
Overall Rating:
Author: Michael Ahlf
Date: April 4th, 2008

A long time ago, in arcades far, far from memory, Don Bluth dropped a series of laserdisc videogames on kids. The best-known will always be Dragon's Lair, but Bluth also hid arcade players with a futuristic sibling; the weird and slightly more advanced Space Ace.

Where Dragon's Lair could easily have been a proof-of-concept, Ace took a few more tricks and ideas and fleshed out the interface. A slightly more kitschy storyline involving an "infanto-ray" and a stolen girlfriend later, gamers led a pimply teen on a desperate rescue effort.

Digital Leisure have taken the experience of Dragon's Lair on Blu-Ray and done it again, this time kicking forward the Blu-Ray edition of Space Ace in the same solid transfer method and wonderfully accurate BD-Java menu setup. The only thing missing? A stack of quarters.
