It's only once in a great while that gamers are offered the chance to re-experience a true classic; Nintendo's Wii and Xbox360's download services have offered some limited means, but not always for the pure titles. Many times, gamers are subjected to some rather odd re-imagingings or graphical changes, with further alterations to the gameplay bogging down translation.

For gamers on the DS, however, XSeed have managed to offer up a stellar remake that retains all the original playability and fun of the original, but adds in more ways to explore the game. The title is Populous, the "original god game" (quite literally), an almost hands-off RTS that works not through micromanagement and instructing units exactly where to build, but by teasing and tweaking the landscape, to make it hospitable to followers and inhospitable to the enemy all at once. The result? A brilliant and exciting title that would make the original's programmers quite proud.
